Photoshop and Lightroom!
These two go hand in hand. Photoshop lets me retouch the small details such as facial scars as well as helping blur out the background. Lightroom is going to give me some quick edits as well as presets that I can give myself a cohesive look to my portfolio.

One other thing I like is that I can do several quick edits in lightroom to see what works best at a glance. I can fine tune the filters from there, but it's a starting point.
I use lightroom to really help find some of my editing styles. I've noticed that for portraits, I like more moody and dark. For product photography I enjoy the light and airy look.
Understand these are obvious answers, but when starting out, get familiar with these apps. They can help streamline your workflow so much.
This creative business you launched shouldn't make you work harder and be miserable at what you do. You should be having fun, being creative, and getting more effective!
